UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68395: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ata: satadwc460ex: enable SATA interrupts only after IRQ handler is registered satadwcenableinterrupts() is called before platformgetirq() and atahostactivate(), leaving the SATA controller's interrupt mask enabled without a registered handler. If a later step fails (irq request, phy init, etc.) or if the controller asserts an interrupt during probe, the irq line may fire with no handler, causing a spurious interrupt storm. Move satadwcenableinterrupts() after atahostactivate() so that interrupts are only unmasked once the handler is registered and the core is fully initialized.

In the ata: sata_dwc_460ex driver, move the sata_dwc_enable_interrupts() call to after ata_host_activate() so SATA interrupts are unmasked only after the IRQ handler is registered and the core is fully initialized.
Event History
Frequently Asked Questions
Under what conditions can the issue occur?
It can occur during SATA controller probe when interrupts are enabled before the IRQ handler is registered. A controller interrupt during probe, or a later failure such as IRQ-request or PHY initialization failure, can leave the IRQ line active without a handler.
What is the operational impact?
The unhandled IRQ line can generate a spurious interrupt storm. The issue affects the SATA interrupt initialization path in the listed Ubuntu kernel packages.
