UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68419: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/irdma: Prevent reregmr for non-mem regions When a QP/CQ/SRQ is created, a two step process is used where the buffer is allocated in userspace and explicitly registered with the normal regmr mechanism prior to creating the actual QP/CQ/SRQ object. These special registrations are indicated via an ABI field so the driver knows that they do not have a valid mkey and to skip the actual CQP command submission. Since these are real MR objects from the core's perspective, it is possible for a user application to invoke reregmr on them and cause a real CQP op to be emitted with the zero-initialized mkey value of 0. Fix this by preventing reregmr on these special regions.

Prevent rereg_mr for non-memory special regions by using the ABI field that identifies registrations without a valid mkey, and skip actual CQP command submission for those regions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who can trigger this issue?
A local user application that can use RDMA and create QP, CQ, or SRQ objects can trigger it by invoking rereg_mr on the special memory regions used for those objects. The CVSS vector indicates local access and low privileges are required; no user interaction is needed.
What conditions make a system exposed?
The affected condition requires the irdma RDMA driver and use of the two-step userspace registration flow for QP, CQ, or SRQ buffers. Systems not using these RDMA capabilities are not described as reaching the vulnerable path.
What happens when the vulnerable operation is performed?
Re-registering one of these special regions can cause the driver to submit a real CQP operation using its zero-initialized mkey value of 0. The reported impact is availability loss with low integrity impact.
What can be done before an update is available?
Avoid calling rereg_mr on memory regions registered specifically for QP, CQ, or SRQ creation. Restrict untrusted local users' ability to access and use RDMA where feasible.
