UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68425: High severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: IB/mad: Drop unmatched RMPP responses before reassembly Kernel-handled RMPP receive processing starts reassembly for active DATA responses before the response is matched to an outstanding send. The normal match happens later, after ibprocessrmpprecvwc() has either assembled a complete message or consumed the segment. That ordering lets an unsolicited response that routes to a kernel RMPP agent by the high TID bits allocate or extend RMPP receive state before the full TID and source address are checked against a real request. A reordered burst can therefore reach the receive-side insertion path even though the response would not match any send. For kernel-handled RMPP DATA responses, require the existing ibfindsendmad() match before entering RMPP reassembly. The matcher already checks the full TID, management class and source address/GID against the agent wait, backlog and in-flight send lists. If there is no match, drop the response without creating RMPP state. This leaves the RMPP window behavior unchanged and only rejects responses that have no corresponding request.

In Linux kernel IB/mad kernel-handled RMPP receive processing, require an existing ib_find_send_mad() match before entering RMPP reassembly; if no match exists, drop the response without creating RMPP state.
Event History
Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are most exposed to this issue?
Systems using kernel-handled InfiniBand Management Datagram RMPP agents are affected by the vulnerable receive path. The affected Ubuntu kernel packages listed are linux, linux-fips, linux-aws, linux-azure, linux-aws-fips, linux-azure-fips, linux-gcp, and linux-gcp-fips.
What does an attacker need to send to trigger the vulnerable processing?
An attacker needs to send an unsolicited RMPP DATA response that routes to a kernel RMPP agent through the high TID bits. Before the fix, this could enter RMPP reassembly before the full transaction ID and source address were verified against an outstanding request.
What is the practical effect of receiving an unmatched response?
An unmatched response could allocate or extend RMPP receive state despite not corresponding to any real send request. A reordered burst could reach the receive-side insertion path before the response was ultimately found not to match a request.
How does the fix prevent exploitation?
The fix requires ib_find_send_mad() to find a matching outstanding send before RMPP reassembly begins. That match validates the full TID, management class, and source address or GID against the agent's wait, backlog, and in-flight send lists; unmatched responses are dropped without creating RMPP state.
