UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68449: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ata: satadwc460ex: fix infinite loop in NCQ tag completion bit-scanning The hand-rolled bit-scanning loop in the NCQ completion path has an infinite loop bug. When tagmask has only high bits set (e.g. 0x80000000), the inner while loop left-shifts tagmask until it overflows to 0. At that point !(0 & 1) is always true and 0 <<= 1 stays 0, causing an infinite loop in hardirq context with a spinlock held. Replace the open-coded bit-scanning with ffs() which correctly finds the least significant set bit and is bounded by the width of the argument.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel package families are listed as affected?
The affected package families listed are linux, linux-fips, linux-aws, linux-azure, linux-aws-fips, linux-azure-fips, linux-gcp, and linux-gcp-fips.
What condition triggers the faulty completion-path behavior?
The issue occurs in the sata_dwc_460ex driver's NCQ completion path when the tag mask contains only high-order bits, such as 0x80000000. The faulty bit scan can then overflow the mask to zero and loop indefinitely.
What is the likely operational effect if the issue is triggered?
The system can enter an infinite loop in hard interrupt context while holding a spinlock. This can prevent the affected completion processing from progressing and may cause the system to hang.
