UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68450: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: btrfs: free mapping node on duplicate reloc root insert addrelocroot() allocates a mappingnode before inserting it into rc->relocroottree. If rbsimpleinsert() finds an existing entry, it returns the existing rbnode and leaves the newly allocated node unlinked. The error path then returns -EEXIST without freeing the new node. Since the node was never inserted into relocroottree, the later cleanup in putreloccontrol() cannot find it either. Free the newly allocated node before returning -EEXIST. The callers currently assert that -EEXIST should not happen, so this is a defensive cleanup for an unexpected duplicate insert path. If the path is ever reached, the local allocation should still be released.

Frequently Asked Questions
What condition is required for the memory leak to occur?
The duplicate relocation-root insertion path must be reached: rb_simple_insert() must find an existing entry after __add_reloc_root() has allocated a new mapping_node. The available information states that callers currently assert this -EEXIST condition should not occur, making it an unexpected-path defensive fix.
What is the impact if this condition is reached?
The newly allocated mapping_node is left unlinked and was not freed before returning -EEXIST. Later reloc-control cleanup cannot find that node because it was never added to reloc_root_tree, resulting in a memory leak.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, ubuntu/linux-riscv, and ubuntu/linux-gkeop.
