UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68467: High severity ubuntu/linux-azure vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mtd: mchp23k256: use SPI match data for chip caps The driver stores chip capacity information in both the OF match table and the SPI id table. Probe currently uses ofdevicegetmatchdata(), so a non-OF SPI modalias match falls back to mchp23k256caps even when the SPI id table selected a different part. Use spigetdevicematchdata() so SPI id-table driverdata is consumed when OF match data is absent. This keeps the existing default fallback while avoiding the wrong MTD geometry for id-table-only matches.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to the incorrect geometry selection?
The issue affects systems using the mchp23k256 MTD driver where a device is matched through the SPI ID table without Open Firmware match data. In that case, the driver can fall back to mchp23k256 capacity data even when the SPI ID table selected a different part.
What conditions are needed to trigger the issue?
An attacker needs local access with low privileges. Exploitation also depends on the affected driver probing an SPI device through an ID-table-only, non-OF modalias match.
Are default fallback configurations affected?
The existing default fallback remains in place. The fix changes probe behavior so SPI ID-table driver data is used when OF match data is absent, preventing an ID-table-only match from using the wrong MTD geometry.
