UBUNTU-CVE-2026-68474: High severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: powerpc/spufs: fix out-of-bounds access in spufsmemmmapaccess() spufsmemmmapaccess() computes the local store offset as address - vma->vmstart, but bounds-checks it against vma->vmend instead of the local store size. On 64-bit, offset is always well below vma->vmend, so the clamp never fires and len stays unbounded against the LSSIZE buffer returned by ctx->ops->getls(). Reject offsets at or beyond LSSIZE and clamp len to the remaining space, mirroring the guard already used by spufsmemmmapfault() and spufspsfault().

In spufs_mem_mmap_access(), reject offsets at or beyond LS_SIZE and clamp len to the remaining local-store space (LS_SIZE - offset), mirroring the guard in spufs_mem_mmap_fault() and spufs_ps_fault().

Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions are required for exploitation?
An attacker needs local access and low-level privileges. The vulnerable path involves the PowerPC SPU filesystem local-store memory mapping access handler.
Which Ubuntu kernel package families are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
What is the impact of successful exploitation?
The vulnerability is rated high with a CVSS score of 7.8. It is assessed as having high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
What does the fix change?
The fix rejects local-store offsets at or beyond LS_SIZE and limits access length to the remaining local-store space. This prevents reads or accesses from extending beyond the LS_SIZE buffer returned by the local-store operation.
