UBUNTU-CVE-2026-72024: High severity ubuntu/linux-aws vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mac802154: remove interfaces with RCU list deletion Queue wake, stop, and disable paths walk local->interfaces under RCU. The bulk hardware teardown path removes entries with listdel(), so an asynchronous transmit completion can follow a poisoned list node in ieee802154wakequeue(). Use listdelrcu() as in the single-interface removal path. The following unregisternetdevice() waits for in-flight RCU readers before freeing the netdevice, so no separate grace-period wait is needed.

In the Linux kernel mac802154 bulk hardware teardown path, replace list_del() with list_del_rcu() when removing interface entries from local->interfaces.

Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions are required for exploitation?
The issue involves an asynchronous transmit completion racing with bulk hardware teardown in the mac802154 subsystem. The supplied data does not identify a remote attack vector or any required user interaction.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
What is the impact of a successful race?
An asynchronous transmit completion can follow a poisoned list node while ieee802154_wake_queue() walks the interface list. The severity data rates confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact as high.
How does the fix address the race?
The fix replaces list_del() with list_del_rcu() during bulk hardware teardown, matching the single-interface removal path. unregister_netdevice() then waits for in-flight RCU readers before the netdevice is freed.
