UBUNTU-CVE-2026-72062: Low severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: gpio: mt7621: avoid corruption of shared interrupt trigger state The bank-shared fields like 'rising' and 'falling' are modified using non-atomic read-modify-write operations. Since every gpio chip instance represents an entire bank of 32 pins, if 'mediatekgpioirqtype()' is called concurrently for different IRQs on the same bank a possible overwrite of each other's configuration is possible. Thus, protect this state with 'gpiogenericlockirqsave' lock in the same way it is handled in irpchip 'mediatekgpioirqmask()' and 'mediatekgpioirqunmask()' callbacks.

Frequently Asked Questions
What systems are realistically exposed to this issue?
Systems using an affected Ubuntu kernel package are exposed only where the MediaTek MT7621 GPIO driver is in use. The race requires concurrent IRQ trigger-type configuration changes for different GPIO interrupts in the same 32-pin bank.
What does an attacker or triggering workload need to do?
The condition is triggered when mediatek_gpio_irq_type() runs concurrently for different IRQs on the same GPIO bank. The non-atomic updates can overwrite another IRQ's rising or falling trigger configuration.
How can I determine whether a system may be affected?
Check whether the system runs one of the listed Ubuntu kernel packages and uses MT7621 GPIO interrupt handling. Review whether software or drivers can concurrently change interrupt trigger types for GPIOs belonging to the same 32-pin bank.
What is the mitigation if an updated kernel cannot be deployed immediately?
Avoid concurrent GPIO IRQ trigger-type changes for different interrupts within the same MT7621 GPIO bank. Serializing those configuration operations prevents the shared rising and falling state from being updated concurrently.
