UBUNTU-CVE-2026-72078: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Input: ims-pcu - validate control endpoint type The driver currently assumes that the first endpoint of the control interface is an interrupt IN endpoint without verifying it. A malicious device could provide a different endpoint type, which would then be passed to usbfillinturb(), potentially leading to kernel warnings or undefined behavior. Verify that the control endpoint is an interrupt IN endpoint.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is realistically exposed to this issue?
Systems running one of the listed Ubuntu Linux kernel packages are exposed when they use the ims-pcu input driver and connect a malicious USB device that presents a crafted control interface endpoint.
What does an attacker need to exploit it?
An attacker needs to provide a malicious USB device whose first control-interface endpoint is not an interrupt IN endpoint. The issue is triggered when the driver assumes that endpoint type and passes it to usb_fill_int_urb().
Is a default configuration known to be affected?
The available information does not state whether the ims-pcu driver is enabled or loaded by default in the affected Ubuntu kernel packages. Exposure depends on use of that driver and connection of a malicious USB device.
What can be done before an update is available?
Avoid connecting untrusted USB devices to systems that may use the ims-pcu driver. Restrict physical USB access where possible.
