UBUNTU-CVE-2026-72106: Buffer Overflow
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: dm-ioctl: fix a possible overflow in listversiongetinfo sizeof(tt->version) is 12 bytes, but the code writes 16 bytes into the output buffer - info->vers->version[0], info->vers->version[1], info->vers->version[2] and info->vers->next. This can cause buffer overflow. Fix this buffer overflow by replacing "sizeof(tt->version)" with "sizeof(struct dmtargetversions)".

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel package variants are listed as affected?
The affected software list includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
What condition triggers the overflow?
The issue occurs in dm-ioctl list_version_get_info when the code allocates or accounts for sizeof(tt->version), which is 12 bytes, but writes 16 bytes: three version fields and the next field.
What is the remediation described for this issue?
The fix replaces sizeof(tt->version) with sizeof(struct dm_target_versions), ensuring the output buffer size accounts for all fields written.
