UBUNTU-CVE-2026-72109: High severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: sparx5: unregister blocking notifier on init failure sparx5registernotifierblocks() registers the switchdev blocking notifier before allocating the ordered workqueue. If the workqueue allocation fails, the error path unregisters the switchdev and netdevice notifiers, but leaves the blocking notifier registered. Add a separate error label for the workqueue allocation failure path and unregister the switchdev blocking notifier there.

On the ordered workqueue allocation failure path in sparx5_register_notifier_blocks(), unregister the switchdev blocking notifier in addition to the switchdev and netdevice notifiers.
Event History
Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions are required to trigger the affected error path?
The issue occurs when the sparx5 driver registers its switchdev blocking notifier and then fails to allocate its ordered workqueue during initialization. The provided information does not identify additional trigger conditions.
What is the impact if the workqueue allocation fails?
The initialization error path unregisters the switchdev and netdevice notifiers but leaves the switchdev blocking notifier registered. This creates an inconsistent notifier-registration state; the supplied data does not specify further observable effects or exploitation steps.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, ubuntu/linux-riscv, and ubuntu/linux-gkeop.
