UBUNTU-CVE-2026-72148: Race Condition
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: dmaengine: dw-edma: Add spinlock to protect DONEINTMASK and ABORTINTMASK The DONEINTMASK and ABORTINTMASK registers are shared by all DMA channels, and modifying them requires a read-modify-write sequence. Because this operation is not atomic, concurrent calls to dwedmav0corestart() can introduce race conditions if two channels update these registers simultaneously. Add a spinlock to serialize access to these registers and prevent race conditions. [den: update dwedma.lock comment]

Add a spinlock to serialize access to the shared DONE_INT_MASK and ABORT_INT_MASK registers, protecting the read-modify-write sequence and preventing concurrent dw_edma_v0_core_start() calls from causing race conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this race condition?
The issue affects the listed Ubuntu kernel packages, including linux, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-aws-fips, linux-fips, linux-azure-fips, linux-gcp-fips, and linux-realtime. Exploitation requires local access and low privileges.
What conditions are needed to trigger the issue?
Concurrent DMA channel starts must update the shared DONE_INT_MASK or ABORT_INT_MASK registers at the same time. The vulnerable path is the non-atomic read-modify-write handling in dw_edma_v0_core_start().
What is the potential impact?
A successful race can affect integrity and availability, with the provided vector indicating high availability impact and low integrity impact. No confidentiality impact is indicated.
