UBUNTU-CVE-2026-72152: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-azure vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tpm: tpmtisspi: Use waitwoken() in waitfortmpstat() waiteventinterruptibletimeout() evaluates its condition after setting the current task state to TASKINTERRUPTIBLE. With CONFIGDEBUGATOMICSLEEP this triggers a warning when the IRQ wait path is used: tpmtisstatus() tpmtisspireadbytes() tpmtisspitransferfull() spibuslock() mutexlock() Address this with the following measures: 1. Call waittpmstatcond() only while tasking is running. 2. Use waitwoken() to wait for changes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are most likely to encounter this issue?
Systems using the TPM TIS driver over SPI and taking its IRQ wait path are relevant. The affected Ubuntu kernel package families listed are linux, linux-azure, linux-fips, linux-gcp, linux-oracle, linux-aws-fips, linux-azure-fips, and linux-gcp-fips.
How can I tell whether this is occurring on a system?
With CONFIG_DEBUG_ATOMIC_SLEEP enabled, the IRQ wait path can trigger a warning involving tpm_tis_status(), tpm_tis_spi_read_bytes(), tpm_tis_spi_transfer_full(), spi_bus_lock(), and mutex_lock().
