UBUNTU-CVE-2026-72167: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mtd: rawnand: pl353: fix probe resource allocation During probe(), the devmioremap() is called with the parent device instead of the current one. So when the module is unloaded, the register area isn't released. Target the pl35x device in the devmioremap() instead of its parent.

In probe(), call devm_ioremap() with the pl35x device rather than its parent device so the register area is released when the module is unloaded.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are realistically exposed to this issue?
Systems using the PL353 raw NAND controller driver are affected. The listed Ubuntu kernel packages include linux, linux-realtime, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-azure-fde, linux-gke, linux-riscv, and linux-gkeop.
What condition triggers the resource leak?
The issue occurs when the PL353 driver is probed and later unloaded. The driver maps its register area using the parent device rather than the PL35x device, preventing the register mapping from being released on module unload.
Is this an attacker-driven vulnerability?
The provided information describes a resource-allocation and cleanup defect during driver probe and module unload. It does not provide an attacker prerequisite, exploit path, or indication that an attacker can trigger it remotely.
What can be done if an updated kernel cannot be deployed immediately?
Avoid unloading the PL353 driver after it has been probed, where operationally feasible. The supplied data does not identify another mitigation or configuration change.
