UBUNTU-CVE-2026-72258: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ASoC: mediatek: mt8183: Release reserved memory on cleanup The MT8183 AFE probe can assign reserved memory with ofreservedmemdeviceinit(), but the assignment is never released on driver removal or later probe failures. Register a devm cleanup action so the reserved memory assignment is released consistently, matching newer Mediatek AFE drivers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are most relevant to this issue?
Systems using the MediaTek MT8183 AFE driver are the relevant exposure area. The affected Ubuntu kernel package families listed are linux-riscv, linux-realtime, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-azure-fde, linux-gke, linux-hwe-edge, and linux-gkeop.
When can the resource leak occur?
The leak can occur after the driver assigns reserved memory during probe and is later removed, or when probing fails after that assignment. The fix registers device-managed cleanup so the reserved-memory assignment is released in both cases.
