UBUNTU-CVE-2026-72259: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability

Published Aug 15, 2026
·
Updated

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ASoC: mediatek: mt8192: Release reserved memory on cleanup The MT8192 AFE probe calls ofreservedmemdeviceinit() and falls back to preallocated buffers when no reserved memory region is available. When the reserved memory assignment succeeds, however, the driver never releases it. Register a devm cleanup action after a successful reserved-memory assignment so the assignment is released on probe failure and driver unbind.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which systems are exposed to this issue?

The issue affects the MT8192 AFE driver when reserved-memory assignment succeeds. The listed Ubuntu kernel packages are linux-riscv, linux-realtime, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-azure-fde, linux-gke, linux-hwe-edge, and linux-gkeop.

2

When can the resource leak occur?

It occurs after a successful reserved-memory assignment if the probe later fails or when the driver is unbound. Systems that have no reserved-memory region use preallocated buffers instead and do not take the successful reserved-memory assignment path described.

3

What does the fix change?

The fix registers a device-managed cleanup action after reserved-memory assignment succeeds. This releases the assignment on probe failure and driver unbind.
