UBUNTU-CVE-2026-72290: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: s390: pci: Fix GISC refcount leak on AIF enable failure kvms390giscregister() registers the guest ISC before pinning the guest interrupt forwarding pages and allocating the AISB bit. If any of the later setup steps fails, the function unwinds the pinned pages and other local state, but does not unregister the GISC reference. Add the missing kvms390giscunregister() to the error unwind path.

Add the missing kvm_s390_gisc_unregister() call to the error unwind path so that a GISC reference registered by kvm_s390_gisc_register() is unregistered when later setup steps fail.
KVM s390 PCI AIF setup error unwind path = call kvm_s390_gisc_unregister()

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
The issue affects the listed Ubuntu kernel packages when KVM on s390 is used with PCI guest interrupt forwarding/AIF setup. Systems not using this KVM s390 PCI functionality are not described as exposed by the provided data.
What conditions are required to trigger the leak?
A local, low-privileged attacker needs to cause AIF enablement to fail after the guest ISC has been registered but while later setup steps, such as pinning guest interrupt-forwarding pages or allocating the AISB bit, fail. The result is a leaked GISC reference during error handling.
How can administrators determine whether a failure path was encountered?
The provided data does not specify a detection method, log message, or observable indicator for existing leaked references. It identifies the relevant condition as an AIF enablement failure in KVM s390 PCI setup.
