UBUNTU-CVE-2026-72324: Low severity ubuntu/linux-azure vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: gpio: mvebu: free generic chips on unbind irqallocdomaingenericchips() allocates generic chip data that must be freed via irqdomainremovegenericchips(). The devres action mvebugpioremoveirqdomain() only called irqdomainremove(), which only frees the generic chips if IRQDOMAINFLAGDESTROYGC is set. Call irqdomainremovegenericchips() explicitly before irqdomainremove() instead.

In the mvebu GPIO IRQ-domain unbind path, explicitly call irq_domain_remove_generic_chips() before calling irq_domain_remove().
Event History
Frequently Asked Questions
What condition triggers the resource leak?
The leak occurs when the Marvell mvebu GPIO driver's IRQ domain is unbound or removed. Generic IRQ chip data allocated through irq_alloc_domain_generic_chips() was not explicitly freed before the IRQ domain was removed.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips, and ubuntu/linux-oracle.
What does the upstream fix change?
The fix explicitly calls irq_domain_remove_generic_chips() before irq_domain_remove(). This frees the generic chip data regardless of whether IRQ_DOMAIN_FLAG_DESTROY_GC is set.
