UBUNTU-CVE-2026-72361: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/xe/hwengine: Fix double-free of managed BO in error path The error path in hwengineinit() explicitly frees a BO allocated with xemanagedbocreatepinmap() via xebounpinmapnovm(). Since the managed BO already has a devm cleanup action registered, this causes a double-free when devm unwinds during probe failure. Remove the explicit free and let devm handle it, consistent with all other xemanagedbocreatepinmap() callers. (cherry picked from commit e459a3bdeb117be496d7f229e2ea1f6c9fe4080b)

Frequently Asked Questions
When does the double-free occur?
It occurs during a probe failure in hw_engine_init(), when the error path explicitly frees a managed buffer object and devm later unwinds its registered cleanup action.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux-riscv, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge, and ubuntu/linux-gkeop.
What is the relevant mitigation if updating is not immediately possible?
The described fix is to avoid explicitly freeing the buffer object through xe_bo_unpin_map_no_vm() in this error path, allowing the existing devm cleanup action to handle release instead.
