UBUNTU-CVE-2026-72425: High severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ice: fix FDIR CTRL VSI resource leak in iceresetallvfs() Resetting all VFs causes resource leak on VFs with FDIR filters enabled as CTRL VSIs are only invalidated and not freed. Fix by using icevfctrlvsirelease() instead of icevfctrlinvalidatevsi() which aligns behavior with the iceresetvf() function. Reproduction: echo 1 > /sys/class/net/$pf/device/sriovnumvfs ethtool -N $vf flow-type ether proto 0x9000 action 0 echo 1 > /sys/class/net/$pf/device/reset

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are most likely to be exposed?
Exposure is tied to the listed Ubuntu kernel packages when SR-IOV virtual functions are in use and VF FDIR filters are enabled. The affected packages include ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, ubuntu/linux-riscv, and ubuntu/linux-gkeop.
What conditions trigger the leak?
The leak occurs when all VFs are reset while a VF has FDIR filters enabled. In the supplied reproduction, a VF is created, an EtherType FDIR filter is configured with ethtool, and the physical function device is then reset.
What is the expected security impact?
The provided CVSS vector rates the issue as local, low-complexity, requiring no privileges or user interaction, with high availability impact. It indicates no confidentiality or integrity impact.
How can administrators determine whether their deployment has the relevant configuration?
Check whether the system is using one of the listed Ubuntu kernel packages, has SR-IOV VFs configured through sriov_numvfs, and applies FDIR filters to those VFs. Deployments without VF FDIR filters do not match the described trigger condition.
