UBUNTU-CVE-2026-72448: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: octeontx2-pf: Fix leak of SQ timestamp buffer on teardown The send-queue timestamp ring is allocated with qmemalloc() when timestamping is used, but otx2freesqres() never freed sq->timestamps, leaking that memory across ifdown and device removal. Add the missing qmemfree() alongside the other SQ companion buffers.

In otx2_free_sq_res(), call qmem_free() for sq->timestamps alongside the other SQ companion buffers to free the send-queue timestamp ring during teardown.
Event History
Frequently Asked Questions
When can this memory leak occur?
The leak occurs when send-queue timestamping is used and the interface is brought down or the device is removed. The send-queue timestamp buffer is allocated for timestamping but was not released during teardown.
Which deployments are exposed?
Affected deployments are those using the listed Ubuntu kernel packages with an octeontx2 physical-function device and send-queue timestamping enabled. The provided information does not establish that systems without timestamping enabled are affected.
What is the practical impact of repeated teardown events?
Each affected interface teardown can leave its send-queue timestamp buffer allocated. Repeated ifdown operations or device removals may therefore accumulate unreleased kernel memory.
