UBUNTU-CVE-2026-72476: Use After Free
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: dmaengine: Fix possible use after free In dmareleasechannel(), check chan->device->privatecnt after call dmachanput(). However, dmachanput() call dmadeviceput() which could release the last reference of the device if the DMA provider is already gone and hence free it. Fixes it by moving dmachanput() after the check.

Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions are required to trigger this issue?
An attacker needs local access and low privileges. The vulnerable path involves releasing a DMA channel when its DMA provider has already gone away, allowing the device to be freed before its private reference count is checked.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are identified as affected?
The affected software list includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
What is the impact if exploitation succeeds?
This is a use-after-free flaw rated high with CVSS 7.8. Successful exploitation may result in high impact to confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
