UBUNTU-CVE-2026-74262: Low severity ubuntu/linux-azure vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: kcm: use WRITEONCE() when changing lower socket callbacks kcmattach() replaces a live lower TCP socket's skdataready and skwritespace callbacks with KCM handlers, and kcmunattach() restores them later. Those callback-pointer updates are still plain stores even though the same fields can be read and invoked concurrently on other CPUs. If another CPU observes an older callback snapshot after the live field has already been restored, callback execution can run with a mismatched target and skuserdata state, leading to stale or misdirected wakeups. Use WRITEONCE() for the callback replacement and restore operations so these shared callback fields follow the same visibility contract already established by the earlier 4022 fixes.

In the Linux kernel KCM code, use WRITE_ONCE() for both replacement and restoration of the lower socket sk_data_ready and sk_write_space callback pointers in kcm_attach() and kcm_unattach().

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
Systems running one of the listed Ubuntu kernel packages may be exposed when KCM attaches to and later detaches from a live lower TCP socket. The issue concerns concurrent access to the socket callback fields on multiple CPUs.
What access would an attacker need?
The supplied vector indicates local access, low privileges, and no user interaction. Exploitation also depends on a specific timing condition involving concurrent callback reads or execution while KCM changes or restores the lower socket callbacks.
What is the expected impact?
The issue can cause stale or misdirected wakeups when callback execution uses a mismatched callback target and sk_user_data state. The provided severity is low, and the vector indicates availability impact without confidentiality or integrity impact.
