UBUNTU-CVE-2026-74329: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: watchdog: unregister PM notifier on watchdog unregister watchdogregisterdevice() registers wdd->pmnb when WDOGNOPINGONSUSPEND is set, but watchdogunregisterdevice() does not remove it. This leaves an embedded notifier block on the PM notifier chain after the watchdog device has been unregistered. A later suspend/resume notification can then call watchdogpmnotifier() with a stale watchdogdevice pointer, or at minimum after wdd->wddata has been cleared by watchdogdevunregister(). Unregister the PM notifier before tearing down the watchdog device.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
Systems using the listed Ubuntu kernel packages may be exposed when a watchdog device is registered with WDOG_NO_PING_ON_SUSPEND enabled and is later unregistered.
What event can trigger the stale notifier after a watchdog device is removed?
A subsequent system suspend or resume notification can invoke the watchdog PM notifier after the watchdog device has been unregistered. The notifier may then use a stale watchdog_device pointer or operate after its wd_data has been cleared.
Is a watchdog device unregister operation required for exploitation or impact?
Yes. The problematic notifier remains on the PM notifier chain only after a watchdog device that registered the notifier is unregistered; a later suspend or resume event triggers the affected callback.
