UBUNTU-CVE-2026-74340: High severity ubuntu/linux-azure vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: wcn36xx: fix OOB read from firmware count in PRINTREGINFO indication The firmware-controlled rsp->count field is used as the loop bound for indexing into the flexible rsp->regs[] array without validation against the message length. A count exceeding the actual data causes out-of- bounds reads from the heap-allocated message buffer. Add a check that count fits within the received message.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
Ubuntu systems using one of the listed Linux kernel packages are in scope, but exploitation requires the wcn36xx Wi-Fi driver to process a PRINT_REG_INFO indication from its firmware. Systems without affected wcn36xx hardware or without that driver in use are not described as exposed by the available information.
What does an attacker need to exploit this vulnerability?
The vulnerable code processes a firmware-controlled count value, so exploitation requires a malicious or compromised firmware indication reaching the wcn36xx driver. No privileges or user interaction are required according to the supplied vector, and the attack vector is adjacent.
What is the impact if exploitation succeeds?
An oversized firmware count can cause an out-of-bounds read from a heap-allocated message buffer. The supplied severity vector rates confidentiality and availability impact as high, while integrity impact is listed as none.
How can this be mitigated before an update is applied?
The provided data does not specify a workaround. Reducing exposure would require preventing the affected wcn36xx driver from receiving firmware indications, where operationally feasible.
