UBUNTU-CVE-2026-74378: Buffer Overflow
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/rxe: Fix TOCTOU heap overflow in getsrqwqe getsrqwqe() reads wqe->dma.numsge from the shared receive queue buffer, which is mapped into userspace. It validates numsge against maxsge, but then re-reads the same field to calculate the memcpy size. A concurrent userspace thread can modify numsge between validation and use, causing a heap buffer overflow when copying the WQE into qp->resp.srqwqe. Read numsge into a local variable and use it for both the bounds check and the size calculation.

In get_srq_wqe(), read wqe->dma.num_sge into a local variable and use that same value for both the max_sge bounds check and the memcpy size calculation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who can exploit this issue?
A local attacker with at least low privileges who can manipulate a userspace-mapped shared receive queue buffer is required. Exploitation also requires a timing race: the attacker must change the SGE count after validation but before it is used to calculate the copy size.
What is the likely impact if exploitation succeeds?
The race can cause a heap buffer overflow while a work queue entry is copied into the RXE queue pair response buffer. The reported impact includes loss of confidentiality, integrity, and availability within the vulnerable component.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are identified as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and ubuntu/linux-oracle.
What does the fix change?
The fix reads the userspace-controlled num_sge value once into a local variable, then uses that same value for both the maximum-SGE validation and the memcpy size calculation. This removes the time-of-check to time-of-use race on that field.
