UBUNTU-CVE-2026-74389: Low severity ubuntu/linux-azure vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/hns: Fix log flood after cmdmbox failure hnsrocecmdmbox() is the command interface between driver and hardware. When hardware is abnormal, the unlimited error printings after hnsrocecmdmbox() failure will cause log flood and even system crash. Replace ibdeverr() and ibdevwarn() with their ratelimited versions in the error handling path after hnsrocecmdmbox() (and its wrappers hnsrocecreatehwctx/hnsrocedestroyhwctx) fails.

Replace ibdev_err() and ibdev_warn() with their ratelimited versions in the error-handling paths after hns_roce_cmd_mbox() fails, including the hns_roce_create_hw_ctx() and hns_roce_destroy_hw_ctx() wrappers, to prevent log flooding.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are realistically exposed to this issue?
Systems using the affected Ubuntu kernel packages and the HNS RDMA driver are exposed when the driver communicates with abnormal hardware. The issue concerns repeated command-mailbox failures in the HNS RDMA path.
What is the practical impact of exploitation or occurrence?
Repeated failures can produce unlimited kernel error and warning messages, causing log flooding. In severe cases, the log flood can contribute to a system crash.
What conditions are needed to trigger the problem?
The HNS RDMA command mailbox interface must fail, such as when the associated hardware is abnormal. The affected error paths include direct hns_roce_cmd_mbox() failures and failures through hns_roce_create_hw_ctx() or hns_roce_destroy_hw_ctx().
What does the fix change?
The fix replaces unrestricted error and warning logging in the relevant failure paths with rate-limited logging. This prevents repeated mailbox failures from generating an unlimited volume of log messages.
