UBUNTU-CVE-2026-74397: High severity ubuntu/linux-azure vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: IB/mlx5: Fix transport-domain rollback and initialize lb mutex earlier mlx5iballoctransportdomain() allocates a transport domain and then may fail in mlx5ibenablelb(). In that case, the allocated TD is leaked. Fix this by deallocating the TD when mlx5ibenablelb() returns an error. Also return 0 explicitly in the no-loopback-capability success branch, and move dev->lb.mutex initialization to mlx5ibstageinitinit().

In mlx5_ib, deallocate the transport domain when mlx5_ib_enable_lb() returns an error; explicitly return 0 in the no-loopback-capability success branch; and move dev->lb.mutex initialization to mlx5_ib_stage_init_init().

Frequently Asked Questions
What systems are exposed to this issue?
The affected software list includes Ubuntu linux, linux-azure, linux-aws-fips, linux-azure-fips, linux-fips, linux-gcp-fips, linux-gcp, and linux-oracle kernel packages. Exploitation requires local access and low privileges, according to the supplied CVSS vector.
What is the impact of successful exploitation?
The supplied severity data rates the issue high at 7.8, with high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impacts. The vulnerability concerns transport-domain allocation failure handling and loopback mutex initialization in the mlx5 InfiniBand driver.
What can be done if patching cannot happen immediately?
No compensating configuration or workaround is provided in the available data. Since the attack vector is local and requires low privileges, restricting untrusted local access may reduce exposure until an updated kernel can be deployed.
