Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
The affected software list includes Ubuntu linux, linux-azure, linux-aws-fips, linux-azure-fips, linux-fips, linux-gcp-fips, linux-gcp, and linux-oracle kernel packages. The issue is in VXLAN GRO receive handling.
What access does an attacker need to exploit this vulnerability?
The severity vector indicates local attack access and low privileges are required, with no user interaction. The vulnerability’s impact is availability only, so successful exploitation can cause a denial of service.
What is the failure condition behind the denial of service?
A race can occur when udp_tunnel_sock_release() clears sk_user_data while vxlan_gro_prepare_receive() is executing. This can leave the receive path with a NULL user-data pointer and lead to a null-pointer dereference.
