UBUNTU-CVE-2026-74408: High severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: ath9k: fix OOB access from firmware tx status queue ID athtxedmatasklet() accesses sc->tx.txq[ts.qid] where ts.qid is a 4-bit hardware field (0-15), but the txq array only has ATH9KNUMTXQUEUES (10) entries. A qid >= 10 causes an OOB array access. Add a bounds check on ts.qid before using it as an array index.

Add a bounds check on ts.qid before ath_tx_edma_tasklet() indexes sc->tx.txq[ts.qid], rejecting or safely handling qid values >= 10 because the 4-bit hardware field can range from 0–15 while the array has 10 entries.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed software includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
What condition triggers the out-of-bounds access?
The ath9k EDMA tasklet uses a firmware-provided transmit-status queue ID as an index into a 10-entry queue array. The hardware field can contain values from 0 through 15, so a value of 10 or greater triggers the out-of-bounds access.
Does exploitation require prior authentication or user interaction?
The supplied CVSS vector indicates no privileges are required and no user interaction is required. It also indicates adjacent-network attack vector access.
What is the impact if the issue is exploited?
The supplied CVSS vector rates confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact as high. The vulnerability is rated high severity with a CVSS score of 8.8.
