UBUNTU-CVE-2026-74416: Medium severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/radeon: fix memory leak in radeonringrestore() on lock failure radeonringrestore() takes ownership of the data buffer allocated by radeonringbackup(). The caller (radeongpureset()) only frees it in the non-restore branch; in the restore branch it relies on radeonringrestore() to free it. If radeonringlock() fails, the function returned early without calling kvfree(data), leaking the ring backup buffer on every GPU reset that fails at the lock stage. During repeated GPU resets this causes cumulative kernel memory exhaustion. Free data before returning the error.

Update radeon_ring_restore() to call kvfree(data) before returning when radeon_ring_lock() fails, freeing the ring backup buffer on lock failure.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are realistically exposed?
Systems using the Radeon DRM driver are exposed when running one of the listed Ubuntu kernel packages. The issue is relevant to GPU reset handling rather than to systems that never exercise the affected Radeon driver path.
What conditions are required to trigger the leak?
A GPU reset must enter the ring restore path and radeon_ring_lock() must fail. Each reset that fails at that lock stage leaks the ring backup buffer, so repeated failures can accumulate kernel memory usage.
