UBUNTU-CVE-2026-74435: Null Pointer Dereference
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: rxrpc: rxrpcverifydata ensure rxdecbuffer alloc rxrpcrecvmsgdata() calls rxrpcverifydata() whenever the rxrpccall.rxdecbuffer is unallocated and assumes that upon successful return that rxdecbuffer must be allocated. However, rxrpcverifydata() does not request an allocation if the rxrpcskbpriv.len is zero. In addition, failure to allocate rxdecbuffer will result in a call to skbcopybits() with a NULL destination which can trigger a NULL pointer dereference. To prevent these issues rxrpcverifydata() is modified to always attempt to allocate the rxrpccall.rxdecbuffer if it is NULL. This issue was identified with assistance of a private sashiko instance.

Frequently Asked Questions
What systems are exposed to this issue?
The affected Ubuntu kernel package set listed here includes linux-riscv, linux-realtime, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-azure-fde, linux-gke, linux-hwe-edge, and linux-gkeop. The vulnerability is in the kernel RxRPC receive path.
What access does an attacker need?
The severity vector indicates network attack access, low attack complexity, no privileges, and no user interaction. Successful exploitation affects availability through a NULL pointer dereference.
What is the expected impact of exploitation?
The stated impact is high availability impact, with no confidentiality or integrity impact. The described failure can trigger a kernel NULL pointer dereference when rx_dec_buffer allocation fails.
