UBUNTU-CVE-2026-74443: High severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/vmwgfx: bound DMA command body size against suffix pointer vmwcmddma() locates the DMA suffix at (unsigned long) &cmd->body + header->size - sizeof(suffix) without checking that header->size is large enough to contain both cmd->body and the suffix. An undersized header makes the suffix pointer underflow back into the previous command in the bounce buffer. The verifier later writes suffix->maximumOffset, clobbering verified fields of an already-relocated earlier command -- a TOCTOU on the device-visible command stream that lets one command rewrite another's GMR id, surface id, or other authenticated fields. Reject the command if the body is too small for the suffix to fit.

In vmw_cmd_dma(), reject DMA commands when header->size is too small to contain cmd->body and the DMA suffix, preventing suffix->maximumOffset from overwriting fields in an earlier relocated command.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel package families are listed for this issue?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
What level of access does an attacker need?
The severity vector indicates local attack vector and low privileges required. User interaction is not required.
What is the potential security impact if exploitation succeeds?
The severity vector rates confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact as high, with scope changed. The flaw can allow a command to rewrite authenticated fields in an earlier device-visible command, including GMR IDs or surface IDs.
