UBUNTU-CVE-2026-74455: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-aws vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: can: peakusb: validate uCAN receive record lengths pcanusbfddecodebuf() walks uCAN records packed in one USB receive buffer. Require each record to contain the fixed header for its type, and verify CAN payload bytes before copying them into the skb.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
Systems running an affected Ubuntu Linux kernel variant listed in the advisory are relevant, including linux, linux-aws, linux-azure, linux-gcp, and the corresponding FIPS variants. Exposure specifically involves the Peak USB CAN driver processing received USB CAN records.
What does an attacker need to exploit the vulnerability?
The issue is triggered through malformed uCAN records in a USB receive buffer handled by pcan_usb_fd_decode_buf(). This indicates an attacker would need a way to cause the affected Peak USB CAN driver to process malformed receive data.
What is the practical impact of the fix?
The fix validates that each received record has the required fixed header for its type and verifies CAN payload length before copying payload bytes into an skb. This prevents processing records whose declared structure or payload length is invalid.
