UBUNTU-CVE-2026-74475: Critical severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vxlan: use neighhasnapshot() in routeshortcircuit() The neighbour hardware address n->ha can be updated asynchronously by the neighbour subsystem, protected by n->halock seqlock. Reading n->ha without holding the seqlock loop can lead to torn reads or reading a partially updated MAC address. Use neighhasnapshot() in routeshortcircuit() to safely copy n->ha under readseqbegin()/readseqretry() lock protection before using it. Note that arpreduce() and neighreduce() seem to have the same issue left for future patches.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are identified as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
What condition triggers the vulnerable code path?
The issue is in VXLAN route_shortcircuit() when it reads a neighbour hardware address while the neighbour subsystem may asynchronously update that address. An update concurrent with the unprotected read can result in a torn or partially updated MAC address being used.
What is the immediate remediation indicated by the available information?
Use a kernel update that includes the change to read the neighbour hardware address through neigh_ha_snapshot() in route_shortcircuit(). The supplied data does not identify fixed package versions or a documented workaround.
Are other neighbour-address reads potentially still affected?
The data notes that arp_reduce() and neigh_reduce() appear to have the same issue, with fixes for those paths left for future patches. Updating for this fix addresses route_shortcircuit(), but does not establish that those other paths are remediated.
