UBUNTU-CVE-2026-74614: High severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vsock/virtio: read virtqueues under worker locks Commit bd50c5dc182b ("vsock/virtio: add support for device suspend/resume") made the run flags transition from false to true when restore installs replacement virtqueues. The RX, TX and event workers read their virtqueue before locking and checking the corresponding flag, so a worker delayed across freeze and restore can observe the replacement queue's running state while retaining a pointer to the deleted queue. Read each virtqueue under its mutex after checking the run flag, keeping the pointer and state in the same queue generation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions are needed to trigger this issue?
The issue requires a virtio-vsock device suspend/resume or freeze/restore sequence in which replacement virtqueues are installed. A delayed RX, TX, or event worker can then retain a pointer to a deleted virtqueue while observing the replacement queue's running state.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed software includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, ubuntu/linux-riscv, and ubuntu/linux-gkeop.
What is the practical security impact?
The provided severity vector rates this as high, with local attack vector, low attack complexity, no privileges or user interaction required, and high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact.
