UBUNTU-CVE-2026-74659: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: bridge: mrp: fix uninitialised bytes on the wire brmrpalloctestskb() builds MRP test frames on an skb from devallocskb(), which does not clear the linear data area. On the MRA ring-role branch the sub-option TLV header is appended with subtlv = skbput(skb, sizeof(subtlv)); subtlv->type = BRMRPSUBTLVHEADERTESTAUTOMGR; so subtlv->length is never written, and the two trailing alignment bytes are appended with a bare skbput() that does not clear them either. The neighbouring oui and subopt regions are explicitly zeroed, so three uninitialised bytes are left in every MRA MRPTest frame that goes out. Put the sub-option TLV header and the alignment padding in a single skbputzero(), which clears both. The AUTOMGR sub-TLV carries no payload, so the zeroed length field is already the value it should have.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is exposed to this issue?
Systems using the affected Ubuntu Linux kernel packages are exposed when they send MRA MRP_Test frames through the bridge MRP functionality. The affected package list includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, ubuntu/linux-riscv, and ubuntu/linux-gkeop.
What information could be disclosed?
Each affected MRA MRP_Test frame can contain three uninitialised bytes: the AUTO_MGR sub-TLV length field and two alignment-padding bytes. Those bytes originate from uncleared skb linear data and are transmitted on the wire.
What conditions are required for exploitation?
The issue occurs specifically on the MRA ring-role path when the kernel constructs and transmits an MRP_Test frame. An attacker would need to be able to receive or observe those frames to obtain the uninitialised bytes.
How can I tell whether my system is affected?
Check whether the system runs one of the listed Ubuntu kernel packages and uses bridge MRP in the MRA ring role. On affected code, captured MRA MRP_Test frames may contain nonzero or unpredictable values in the AUTO_MGR sub-TLV length and alignment-padding bytes.
