UBUNTU-CVE-2026-74693: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: prestera: validate firmware header length presterafwhdrparse() reads the firmware header before checking that the firmware image contains that header. Reject images shorter than struct presterafwheader before decoding the magic and version fields.

Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions are required to trigger this issue?
An attacker or other input source must cause the Prestera network driver to parse a firmware image that is shorter than the Prestera firmware header structure. The vulnerable path is reached while decoding the firmware image header.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are identified as affected?
The listed software includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, ubuntu/linux-riscv, and ubuntu/linux-gkeop.
What can be done if an update cannot be applied immediately?
Do not load or provide undersized firmware images to the Prestera driver. Restrict control over firmware files and firmware-loading workflows to trusted administrators and sources.
