UBUNTU-CVE-2026-74708: High severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: xsk: validate launch-time metadata size Launch-time metadata extends beyond the first 16 bytes of struct xsktxmetadata. Reject the request when the registered metadata area does not contain the complete field. Snapshot the validated flags for the generic transmit path and use that snapshot for request and completion processing, avoiding inconsistent decisions if user space changes the flags concurrently. Note that only xskskbmetadata is properly using the flags, xskbuffgetmetadata ignores them. Next commits address that.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is realistically exposed to this issue?
Systems running the listed Ubuntu kernel packages are in scope: linux-riscv, linux-realtime, linux-hwe-edge, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-azure-fde, linux-gke, and linux-aws-5.0. The attack vector is local, so it is not described as remotely exploitable over the network.
What access does an attacker need?
An attacker needs local access and low privileges. No user interaction is required, and successful exploitation can affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
What behavior was corrected by the fix?
The fix rejects launch-time metadata requests when the registered metadata area does not contain the complete field. It also snapshots validated flags for generic transmit request and completion processing so concurrent user-space changes cannot cause inconsistent decisions.
