UBUNTU-CVE-2026-80534: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-azure vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: xfs: fix ilock leak on error in xfsdqgetnextid xfsdqgetnextid() takes the quota inode ILOCK before calling xfsireadextents(). If xfsireadextents() fails, the function returns immediately without releasing the lock, leaking the quota inode ILOCK. This can leave the quota inode locked and cause subsequent quota operations to hang. Fix this by jumping to a common unlock path on error instead of returning directly.

Modify xfs_dq_get_next_id() so that when xfs_iread_extents() fails, it jumps to the common unlock path instead of returning directly, releasing the quota inode ILOCK.

Frequently Asked Questions
What systems are exposed to this issue?
Ubuntu systems using the listed Linux kernel packages are affected where XFS quota operations are in use. The affected package set includes linux, linux-azure, linux-aws-fips, linux-azure-fips, linux-fips, linux-gcp-fips, linux-gcp, and linux-oracle.
What conditions are required to trigger the hang?
An XFS quota operation must call xfs_dq_get_next_id(), and the subsequent xfs_iread_extents() call must fail. That error path leaves the quota inode ILOCK held, which can cause later quota operations to hang.
How can I tell whether the issue may already be affecting a system?
A likely indication is that XFS quota operations hang after an error during quota processing. The provided information does not identify a more specific log message or detection method.
