UBUNTU-CVE-2026-80547: High severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: s390/vfioccw: Implement a crw lock Unlike the channelprogram struct, which covers synchronous I/O submissions and asynchronous interrupts, the CRW region relies exclusively on asynchronous events coming from hardware. Implement a lock to manage the list of those payloads, to ensure they are read cohesively.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are most likely to be exposed?
The issue is in the Linux kernel s390/vfio_ccw component, so exposure is relevant to Ubuntu systems running an affected listed kernel package where that component is in use. The provided data does not identify specific fixed or affected package versions.
What level of access does an attacker need?
The vector is local and requires low privileges, with no user interaction required. The impact metrics indicate potential confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact, including scope change.
What should be prioritized for remediation?
Update the affected Ubuntu kernel packages identified for your environment, including linux, linux-realtime, linux-azure, linux-gcp, linux-azure-fde, linux-gke, linux-riscv, or linux-gkeop as applicable. The fix implements locking for the vfio_ccw CRW payload list so asynchronously delivered hardware events are read cohesively.
