UBUNTU-CVE-2026-80553: High severity ubuntu/linux-azure vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: s390/vfioccw: Cancel existing workqueues The initialization of the iowork and crwwork workqueues begs the question of whether they should be un-initialized. Add the corresponding cleanup tags in releasedev to ensure work isn't dispatched after the private struct is free'd.

In _release_dev, add cleanup tags and cancel the io_work and crw_work workqueues before freeing the private struct, so no work is dispatched after it is freed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
The affected software list includes Ubuntu kernel packages for the standard, Azure, AWS FIPS, Azure FIPS, FIPS, GCP, GCP FIPS, and Oracle variants. The vulnerable code is in the Linux kernel s390 vfio_ccw component.
What level of access does an attacker need?
The severity vector indicates local access, low attack complexity, and low privileges are required. No user interaction is required, and successful exploitation can affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability with scope changed.
What is the practical impact of the flaw?
The issue can allow work to be dispatched after the related private structure has been freed, creating a use-after-free condition. The reported impact includes high confidentiality, integrity, and availability consequences.
What mitigation is indicated by the fix?
The resolution adds cleanup for the io_work and crw_work workqueues during device release, preventing queued work from running after the private structure is freed. The provided data does not identify a separate workaround for systems that cannot update the kernel.
