UBUNTU-CVE-2026-80567: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-azure vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Input: synaptics-rmi4 - propagate F54 worker errors to V4L2 queue Previously, rmif54bufferqueue() waited for the worker thread to finish but ignored whether it succeeded. If the worker failed (e.g., due to a timeout or register read failure), the queue thread would silently return success, delivering stale or uninitialized memory to userspace. Add a 'reporterror' field to struct f54data to store the worker's exit status. Check this field in rmif54bufferqueue() after the worker finishes, and mark the buffer as VB2BUFSTATEERROR if an error occurred.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to the affected code path?
Exposure is limited to systems using the Linux kernel Synaptics RMI4 F54 input component and its V4L2 buffer queue. The listed Ubuntu kernel packages include linux, linux-azure, linux-aws-fips, linux-azure-fips, linux-fips, linux-gcp-fips, linux-gcp, and linux-oracle.
What condition causes incorrect data to reach userspace?
The issue occurs when the F54 worker thread fails but the queue path reports success anyway. Examples of worker failures include a timeout or register-read failure, after which stale or uninitialized memory can be delivered to userspace.
How does the resolved code handle a worker failure?
The worker exit status is recorded and checked after the worker completes. If an error occurred, the queued buffer is marked VB2_BUF_STATE_ERROR rather than being returned as successful data.
