UBUNTU-CVE-2026-80568: Buffer Overflow
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Input: synaptics-rmi4 - block sinput when F54 queue is busy Changing the input (diagnostic report type) mid-stream changes the report size. Since V4L2 buffers are allocated based on the size at stream start, changing the input while streaming could lead to a heap buffer overflow if the new size is larger than the allocated buffers. Prevent this by blocking VIDIOCSINPUT with -EBUSY if the V4L2 queue is busy (streaming).

Block VIDIOC_S_INPUT with -EBUSY when the V4L2 queue is busy or streaming, preventing the diagnostic report type from changing while buffers are allocated.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who can exploit this issue?
An attacker needs local access with low privileges. The affected systems are Ubuntu installations using one of the listed Linux kernel packages.
What conditions are required for exploitation?
The Synaptics RMI4 F54 V4L2 queue must be streaming, and the attacker must change the diagnostic report input type while that stream is active. A larger newly selected report size can exceed the V4L2 buffers allocated when streaming began.
What can be done before an updated kernel is deployed?
Do not allow diagnostic report input changes through VIDIOC_S_INPUT while the F54 V4L2 queue is streaming. Stop the stream before changing the input or report type.
