UBUNTU-CVE-2026-80574: High severity ubuntu/linux-aws vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Input: focaltech - fix array out-of-bounds in focaltechprocessrelpacket Make finger2 (and also finger1) unsigned, so that if the finger index in the packet is 0 then subtracting 1 creates an array index which overflows above the existing check for FOCMAXFINGERS, as the existing comment says it should, instead of writing to state->fingers[-1].

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are in scope?
The affected software list includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-aws, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and their listed FIPS variants: ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, and ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips.
What condition triggers the out-of-bounds write?
The issue occurs when the focaltech touchscreen driver processes a relative packet with a finger index of 0. Subtracting 1 then produces an index that can write to state->fingers[-1] rather than being rejected by the maximum-finger check.
What access does an attacker need according to the supplied severity vector?
The supplied vector rates the issue as locally exploitable with low attack complexity, no privileges, and no user interaction. It indicates high potential impact to confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
