UBUNTU-CVE-2026-80591: High severity ubuntu/linux-aws vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: f2fs: fix listxattr handling of corrupted xattr entries Validate the xattr entry before reading its fields in f2fslistxattr(). Return -EFSCORRUPTED when the entry is outside the valid xattr storage area instead of returning a successful partial result.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is realistically exposed to this issue?
Systems running one of the listed Ubuntu kernel packages are in scope, including standard, cloud, Oracle, and FIPS kernel variants. Exploitation requires local access and low privileges; the provided data does not indicate remote exploitation.
What must an attacker be able to do to exploit it?
An attacker needs local, low-privileged access and access to an F2FS filesystem containing corrupted extended-attribute entries. The flaw is reached during xattr listing when f2fs_listxattr() reads fields from an entry before validating that it is within the valid xattr storage area.
How can the affected condition be identified?
The relevant condition is corrupted F2FS xattr metadata with an entry outside the valid xattr storage area. The corrected behavior returns -EFSCORRUPTED rather than reporting a successful partial result when such an entry is encountered.
