UBUNTU-CVE-2026-80635: Low severity ubuntu/linux-azure vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: wcn36xx: fix OOB read from short trigger BA firmware response The firmware response length is only checked against sizeof(rsp) (20 bytes), but when candidatecnt >= 1, a 22-byte candidate struct is read at buf + 20 without verifying the response contains it. This causes an out-of-bounds read of stale heap data, corrupting the BA session state. Add validation that the response includes the candidate data.

Validate that the firmware response length includes the 22-byte candidate structure at buf + 20 before reading it when candidate_cnt >= 1.
Event History
Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions are required to trigger this issue?
The affected system must use the Linux kernel wcn36xx Wi-Fi driver and process a malformed firmware trigger-BA response that declares at least one candidate while omitting the required candidate data. Exploitation requires local access and low privileges; no user interaction is required.
What is the practical impact?
A short firmware response can cause the driver to read stale heap data beyond the response buffer and corrupt BA session state. The supplied severity vector rates confidentiality impact as none and integrity and availability impact as low.
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed software includes ubuntu/linux, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-aws-fips, ubuntu/linux-azure-fips, ubuntu/linux-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp-fips, ubuntu/linux-gcp, and ubuntu/linux-oracle.
How is the vulnerability fixed?
The fix validates that a firmware response contains the candidate structure before reading it when the response reports one or more candidates.
