UBUNTU-CVE-2026-80637: High severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: synproxy: fix unaligned memory access in timestamp adjustment Use getunalignedbe32() and putunalignedbe32() to safely read and write the timestamp fields. This prevents performance degradation due to unaligned memory access or even a crash on strict alignment architectures. This follows the implementation of timestamp parsing in the networking stack at tcpparseoptions() and synproxyparseoptions().

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are most likely to be exposed to this issue?
The issue affects the listed Ubuntu kernel packages, including standard, AWS, Azure, GCP, and FIPS variants. Exposure is specifically associated with the netfilter SYNPROXY timestamp-adjustment path, and strict-alignment architectures have the greatest stated crash risk.
What must occur for the vulnerability to have an impact?
The affected SYNPROXY code must process timestamp fields that result in unaligned memory access during timestamp adjustment. The advisory rates the attack vector as network-based, with low attack complexity and no privileges or user interaction required; attack requirements are otherwise not specified.
What is the likely impact on an affected host?
The stated impact is availability: unaligned access can degrade performance and may crash systems on strict-alignment architectures. The provided vector indicates no stated impact to confidentiality or integrity.
