UBUNTU-CVE-2026-80654: Use After Free
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: soc: xilinx: Shutdown and free rx mailbox channel A mbox rx channel is requested using mboxrequestchannelbyname() in probe. In remove callback, the rx mailbox channel is cleaned up when the rxchan is NULL due to incorrect condition check. The mailbox channel is not shutdown and it can receive messages even after the device removal. This leads to use after free. Also the channel resources are not freed. Fix this by checking the rxchan correctly.

Correct the remove callback's rx_chan condition so the rx mailbox channel is shut down and freed when rx_chan is non-NULL, preventing it from receiving messages after device removal and avoiding use-after-free.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu kernel packages are listed as affected?
The listed packages are ubuntu/linux-realtime, ubuntu/linux-azure, ubuntu/linux-gcp, ubuntu/linux-azure-fde, ubuntu/linux-gke, ubuntu/linux-riscv, ubuntu/linux-gkeop, and ubuntu/linux.
When does the use-after-free condition occur?
It occurs after device removal when the receive mailbox channel was requested during probe but is not shut down because the remove callback uses an incorrect NULL condition check. The channel can still receive messages after the device has been removed, causing use after free.
What other impact does the faulty cleanup have?
In addition to leaving a channel capable of receiving messages after device removal, the mailbox channel resources are not freed.
